Lee Jun-ki Picked to Promote Korean Tourism

Actor and singer Lee Jun-ki was named the promotional ambassador of the Korea Tourism Organization on Wednesday.

Lee‘s popularity across Asia has been proven by a number of concerts given in Korea and overseas. A concert held in Seoul last April in collaboration with the Shanghai branch of the KTO attracted 2,500 fans from Asia, including 180 from China. Two concerts in China in May, including one held in Suzhou, lured over 10,000 fans, and shows in Yokohama and Kobe last month drew over 9,000 Japanese fans.

“I’ve thought of my role as kind of a cultural ambassador, so I really enjoyed it when I was a promotional ambassador for the Korean Wave in 2008,” Lee said. “I’m very proud to have this opportunity to represent Korea in 2009, and I would like to take this chance to show a better and positive image of myself and my country.”

Lee Junki and Han Ji-min together in ‘Hero’

Finally, some news on Lee Junki’s new drama, Hero, which was announced last year but has remained rather quiet. The drama was first titled “Strange Heroes,” then “Unseen War,” and is now back to “Hero,” although the production indicates it is a working title.

Cast as the female lead is Cain and Abel’s spunky Han Ji-min, who plays a passionate reporter with a strong sense of responsibility who often grows furious at social irregularities. Lee Junki’s a reporter who rushes recklessly into accidents and incidents without fear; he’s also a guy “who doesn’t have much, nor does he want much.” As ordinary citizens, the reporters stand up against the inequalities between society’s masses and its very elite.

Lee Junki and Han Ji-min have both had very good luck with their last few projects; his Time of Dog and Wolf and Iljimae were both action hits, while her Cain & Abel and Yi San both enjoyed good ratings. We’ll see if that luck continues when they combine forces in this latest project.

Hero will begin filming in September when it finishes casting. The series will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays on MBC this fall.

Lee Jun Ki appointed as tourism ambassador

Actor Lee Jun-ki will now promote Korea tourism, after being named an ambassador by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) Wednesday.

The hallyu star from the films “The King and the Clown” “Hotel Venus” and dramas “Time Between Wolf and Dog” and “Iljimae” has gained popularity both here and abroad.

“I enjoyed working as an honorary ambassador of hallyu last year. I’m proud of being appointed as tourism ambassador this time, and will try my best to promote Korea,” Lee said in the appointment ceremony held at the KTO headquarters in Seoul.

Some 20 journalists from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong covered the ceremony where about 200 foreign fans also attended.

In his fan meeting held in Korea last April, 2,500 Asian fans, including 180 from China, came to see him. Some 10,000 Chinese and 9,000 Japanese fans also attended fan-meeting concerts in Suzhou and Yokohama in May and July, respectively. He recently released his second EP, “J-Style.”

The KTO has appointed 45 celebrities as tourism ambassadors so far. For the first six months of this year, Korea attracted 3.79 million visitors, up 15.3 percent from the same period last year. (Korea Times)

Lee Jun Ki Resolves Legal Dispute With Mentor Entertainment

The legal dispute between Lee Jun Ki and his former management, Mentor Entertainment has come to an end after both came to an agreement.

Mentor Entertainment has recently withdrawn all lawsuits filed earlier against Lee Jun Ki for breach of contract and embezzlement. Lee Jun Ki has in return dropped his countersuit against them. And so both parties who have been in severe conflict for a few months now, has finally been resolved.

Lee Jun Ki had been accused by Mentor Entertainment in September for breach of contract and asked for 500 million KRW as compensation (later raised to 1.5 billion). Mentor Entertainment also filed an additional charge in October against Lee Jun Ki for money embezzlement and it was said that should Lee Jun Ki lose the court case, he could be frozen until 2013. But Lee Jun Ki is now a free man once again and can save the world again (in the drama of course).

Lee Jun Ki Denies Involvement in New Drama

Lee Jun Ki has responded through his management today that he hasn’t confirmed on his next work as yet. There were news yesterday and before that he would be involved with a movie and 2 dramas. But with this new announcement from the man himself, all of these are now just rumors.

A representative from Lee Jun Ki’s management expressed, “It’s true that Lee Jun Ki has been offered roles in the movie Full Autumn and dramas The Story of Men, Strange Heroes. But he is only considering the offers and have not made any decision whatsoever. He will only do so after further thinking.”

The representative continued, “Some companies have not come to a final agreement with us and yet they go ahead with the announcement that Lee Jun Ki has been confirmed. We are very disappointed with their actions as this will not only create confusion among his fans but also affect Lee Jun Ki’s judgement in picking his next work. We hope that this will not happen again in future. Once Lee Jun Ki has confirmed his next work, the fans will be notified at the earliest possible moment. So everyone, please wait for the official announcement.”

With a court case from his former management, Mentor Entertainment hanging over his head, it was hard to believe all these news that Lee Jun Ki would be appearing in a movie and 2 dramas and that’s why I refrained from posting the news when it appeared. It’s hard to report credible stuff nowadays.

Another hero role for Lee Junki

After a short break following his sageuk drama Iljimae, Lee Junki is back with his next project: an SBS weekend drama called Strange Heroes (working title).

In Strange Heroes, Lee Junki is a man who’d spent his life using his genius purely for the sake of furthering his own success. Upon a loved one’s death, he realizes belatedly the error of his ways and decides to fight against the evils of the world on behalf of those who are virtuous but weak.

(So: Iljimae v.2.0? Or perhaps it should be v.3.0, given that a second version is already in the works with Jung Il-woo playing the folk hero in Return of Iljimae.)

The drama will pair Lee’s lead role with pathetic or oddball characters in fighting crime, which gives us the “strange heroes” of the title (so, more like Hong Gil Dong v.2.0 then?). It’ll air next April.

Jun Ki new drama : “Strange Heroes”

It has been reported that Lee Joon Ki will play the leading role in SBS’s special weekend drama “Strange Heroes”, following his “Robin Hood role” in SBS’s “Iljimae” that just ended not too long ago. “Strange Heroes” is a new drama by Jeon Ki Young who also wrote “Crazy for You”.

Lee Joon Ki will play a man who possesses extraordinary talent and succeeds in whatever he does. But after the death of his lover, he lost his motivation to live on and wallows himself in degeneration. However, he eventually wakes up from his sorrow and decides to help the poor and fight for the weaker class of the society.

According to news, after Lee Joon Ki confirmed his participation in the drama, he has spent time discussing the plots with the writer everyday.

Lee Joon Ki expressed: “In order to let viewers see a new me, I’m very particular when it comes to selecting scripts. However, once I saw the script of ‘Strange Heroes’, I was attracted by the role and therefore I agreed immediately without much consideration.”

The production company said: “In the past, we usually had the writers to finish their scripts first before selecting the cast. However, this time round Lee Joon Ki has joined the team in the pre-production stage before the script is even out. We believed that this will increase the overall quality of the drama. If nothing goes wrong, the drama will air beginning April next year.”

Once bitten, twice shy. I don’t know how confirmed is this news as previously there were news on him taking “The story of men”. But that drama has been confirmed to be played by Park Yong Ha. Well maybe this time it is really confirmed for Lee Joon Ki?
